Thank you for your interest in the Stillwater Medical Youth Volunteer Program. The 2024 session will begin on June 3rd and end on July 26th. Participating teens must commit to volunteer for six out of the eight weeks in the session.

This eight-week program provides the opportunity for youth volunteers to learn about having compassion for others while gaining experience supporting patients, families, and staff in a hospital setting.  In addition to the hospital setting, volunteers can also gain experience in the retail business by being a part of our gift shop or snack bar.

The Youth Volunteer program will accept a limited number of volunteers based on availability and needs. We will only review completed applications. Before you apply, it is extremely important that you review the mandatory requirements with your parents or guardians to avoid any commitment conflicts. There will be no exceptions.  Placement will be granted based on the review of your application and the number of available volunteer openings.

There are some items that you will need to have ready for your application:

ABOUT TUBERCULOSIS

Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne, highly contagious, infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Most frequently, TB affects the lungs, however, it can also cause disease in any part of the body, such as the lymph nodes, bones, brain, organs and eyes. TB is a serious disease that kills about 1.4 million people each year worldwide.

TB infection begins without symptoms before becoming active. This inactive carrier state is called latent TB infection (LTBI) and can persist for weeks, months or years before developing into active contagious disease. Although LTBI is not contagious, there is a ~10% average lifetime risk of it becoming active.
